Morrison Real Estate Information
A tiny enclave of a town nestled among the greenspace and trees of the Denver area, Morrison, Colorado, lies about 20 miles southwest of the state's capital. The town is sandwiched among a number of parks in the area within Jefferson County and is home to less than 500 residents, as of estimates of population figures in the 2000 census. The town was incorporated over 100 years ago in 1906.
The town is surrounded by parks with Bear Creek Canyon Park to the west, Bear Creek Lake Park to the east, Red Rocks Park and Hayden Green Mountain Park to the north, and Mt Glennon Park and Mt Falcon Canyon Park to the south, ensuring residents will never have to stray far from home to enjoy the wonderful sunny climate of Colorado. The city sits at an elevation of 5,762 feet and encompasses an area of 2.21 square miles. With such a small population, residents are vastly spread out and town has a low population density, with only 187 people per square mile.
The construction industry employs nearly a third of the town's working residents, and health care and education each employ about another respective 10% of citizens working here. The city's location on the west side of the Hogback rock formation secludes it sufficiently from the more urban Denver suburban area, giving it a remote feel and resulting in the town's playful nickname, "The Nearest Faraway Place."
There are two elementary schools in the town, while students attend middle and high schools in cities nearby. There is a community college just four miles away in Lakewood. Two bed and breakfasts provide visitors a place to stay: the Horton House and the Cliff House Lodge. The biggest attraction in town is the Morrison Natural History Museum and Dinosaur Ridge, which displays a number of dinosaur artifacts and bones that have been excavated throughout the area over the years. To enjoy while visiting, there are nearly a dozen restaurants and taverns. There is also the Red Rocks Park and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, which has been in operation since 1928. Morrison is noted as being near to the Bandimere Speedway.
