Watkins Real Estate Information
Situated about 25 miles east of Denver, Watkins, Colorado, is an unincorporated community that lies splits between Adams and Arapahoe counties. Population estimates as of 2006 were at around 2,000 residents, with the majority in the Arapahoe County portion of the town. Watkins is near the Front Range Airport, and just south of Denver International Airport, off I-70 and just outside the I-470 loop that surround the city of Denver and some of its suburbs.
Watkins is a small town, but still has a number of independently owned and operated businesses, including a lending institution, a motel and a barber/beauty shop. Grade school-aged children who live in Watkins attend schools in nearby communities, but there is an alternative education academy, Ridge View Academy, within the town.
Attractions include Murphy Creek Golf Course, which lies just a few miles away, the Golden Gun Club and the Astre Air Casino. Members of the Watkins Historical Preservation Society can help educate you on the area's history. Triple D Ranch is an equestrian operation that offers horse boarding, training, hourly rides and therapeutic services.
The trails in the community offer ample opportunities to ride a horse, run, hike or bike through the area while enjoy the beauty of the community's natural surroundings, with birds, deer and antelope abundant in the open fields and plains. Agricultural crops grown in Watkins include wheat, millet and sunflowers. The community has a committee which is currently working on a proposal to construct a park downtown. Annual events celebrated throughout the year include a spring flea market, the Watkins Summer Festival, Front Range Fly-In, summer rodeos and an official town lighting of the Christmas tree in the winter. On the weekends, take a drive into nearby Denver to enjoy some of its big-city attractions, from history museums and theater companies to opera and orchestra performances and botanical gardens.
